John Barry
Baseball Hitting Instructor
John is a graduate of East Tennessee State University; he attended Science Hill High School in Johnson City, TN.
John Barry has a lifelong passion for baseball, beginning at the age of 2 when he was teaching pop-up slides to a 14 year old team coached by his father. Following his high school baseball career, John accepted a baseball/basketball scholarship from a junior college in Kansas City where as team captain he played short stop, 2nd base, center field, and batted leadoff. As a stolen base specialist, John set several records including a run of 57 stolen bases in 21 games. At the beginning of his junior year, John accepted an offer to play Division I baseball at East Tennessee State. After a career-ending ankle injury during his senior year, John accepted his coach’s offer to be the student assistant coach for the ETSU Bucs, sparking a love for baseball coaching and instruction that continues today.
John works in Oak Ridge and is also Owner/President of Fitness Pros To Go, Knoxville’s only in-home personal training company. He is coach for the Diamond 12U baseball team and also coaches the Farragut Middle School JV team. In February 2011, John became a Diamond hitting instructor and the SAQ trainer.
John’s Diamond team is the top performer in the Diamond organization with power rankings for AAA division of #1 in the Tennessee East Region, #1 in Region 2 (TN, KY, SC, NC, & VA) and #3 in the National power ranking. His team has won a total of 10 tournaments including a Tennessee State Championship. Diamond Baseball – Simcox Academy welcomes John and looks forward to having him as a SAQ instructor here at the facility.
John lives in Knoxville with his wife Danielle and future Diamond baseball player Benjamin.
